The Hillman Center for Performing Arts at Shady Side Academy has announced new dates for the 2021 Hillman Performing Arts Series. Originally scheduled on Saturday evenings in March through May, all four shows have been moved to Saturday and Sunday afternoons in May and June to create a family-friendly spring/ summer afternoon concert series. Tickets are $20-25 and can be purchased online at www.thehillman.org.
The three vocalists will perform outdoors on Hillman Center's loading dock, while the one instrumentalist will perform in the spacious Richard E. Rauh Theater. All shows will have limited ticketing to ensure adherence with PA gathering limits and socially distant seating. COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place, with masks required for all guests. "The American Songster" Dom Flemons returns to the Hillman after a sellout performance in 2019. With a repertoire covering more than 100 years of American folklore, ballads and tunes, the Grammy winner will perform songs from his 2020 album, Prospect Hill: The American Songster Omnibus. He is an expert player on the banjo, fife, guitar, harmonica, jug, percussion, quills and rhythm bones. Learn more.
The Honey Dewdrops

For the past decade, Americana duo The Honey Dewdrops (Laura Wortman and Kagey Parrish) have performed fresh, original songs influenced by traditional Appalachian music with a contemporary flare. With a versatile setup that includes a clawhammer banjo, mandolin and acoustic guitars, they blend folk and acoustic with a hint of bluegrass to create powerful, heartfelt and authentic music. A 2019 Latin Grammy nominee Sonia De Los Santos uses Latin American rhythms to show the joy she sees in everyday life. This concert will include songs from her debut album, Mi Viaje: De Nuevo León to the New York Island, which reflects her experiences growing up in Mexico, moving to another country, learning about other cultures, and in the process, feeling closer to her own heritage.
