GIRLS LACROSSE WINS THIRD STRAIGHT WPIAL CHAMPIONSHIP

2022 WPIAL 3A Girls Lacrosse Championship Team

The Shady Side Academy girls lacrosse team won its third straight WPIAL Class 3A Championship, defeating Mount Lebanon, 15-7, on Wednesday night, May 25, at Robert Morris University's Joe Walton Stadium.

The Bulldogs never trailed in the game, leading 8-7 at halftime and shutting out the Blue Devils 7-0 in the second half. Senior Jenny Woodings led SSA with five goals, senior Molly Walsh had four goals and two assists, and senior Cecelia Messner had four goals and one assist. Senior Dylan Green added one goal and one assist, and junior Morgan Golden scored one goal.

It marked the second straight year that the two rival teams met for the WPIAl title and the Bulldogs came out on top. Last year, SSA defeated Mt. Lebanon 9-8 on a goal by Woodings with 26.8 seconds to go. The Bulldogs won their first WPIAL title in 2019 in double overtime vs. Upper St. Clair. (The 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19).

Both teams advance to the PIAA state playoffs, which begin on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will face the fourth-place team from District 3 in the first round - opponent, game time and location are TBD.

Congratulations to Head Coach Katy Phillips and the entire team on another championship season!
