Girls Lacrosse Closes Out Season in PIAA Quarterfinals

The Shady Side Academy girls lacrosse team closed out a historic season in the PIAA state playoffs the weekend of May 31-June 1.

SSA defeated McDowell, 21-7, in the first round of the PIAA 3A Girls Lacrosse Tournament on Friday, May 31, at Mars Area High School, in a game that had been delayed three times due to weather. Ten players scored for SSA, including senior Emmie Lau and freshman Molly Walsh with four goals each.

SSA advanced to the PIAA quarterfinals the next day, on Saturday, June 1, at Penn State University, but fell to District 3 champion Manheim Township, 20-5. Senior Abby Todd scored two goals, with Walsh, junior Coco Redican and Lau with one goal each.

Congratulations to Head Coach Katy Phillips and the team on a phenomenal 2019 season, including the first-ever WPIAL championship in program history!
