Girls' Basketball Ends Historic Season in PIAA Second Round

On Tuesday, March 12, the Shady Side Academy varsity girls' basketball team fell to Central Cambria, 63-57 in the second round of the PIAA Class 3A Championship at Greensburg-Salem High School.

Senior Ariana Goitz led the team with 29 points, scoring her 1,000th career point during the game. She finishes her high school career with 1,013 points.

Shady Side ends its historic season with a 20-5 overall record and the program's first-ever appearance in the WPIAL finals.

After the game, Head Coach Amy Szlachetka announced her retirement. Szlachetka has led the team for the past three years in her second coaching stint; she previously coached SSA for 10 seasons from 2000-2010. Assistant Coach Caroline Fitzgerald will take over as head coach for the 2019-2020 season.
