On Friday, March 8, the Shady Side Academy varsity girls' basketball team defeated Greenville, 46-38, in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A Girls' Championship at Sewickley Academy. Shady Side led 5-0 after 8 minutes of play, 25-15 at halftime, and 36-23 after three quarters. Senior Catherine Jewart knocked down three 3-pointers for a game-high 19 points. Sophomore Nyla Rozier and senior Ariana Goitz rounded out the scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Shady Side (20-4) advances to play Central Cambria (18-7) in the second round of the PIAAs on Tuesday, March 12, at 6 p.m. at Greensburg Salem High School in Greensburg, Pa. Advance tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults and will be on sale at the SSA Athletic Department Office until noon on Tuesday. All tickets at the gate are $7.
