Freshman Wins Third Place in Congressional Art Competition

Aniket KumtaShady Side Academy freshman Aniket Kumta's drawing, Etchings of Experience, tied for third place in Pennsylvania's 12th Congressional District in the 2017 Congressional Art Competition.

The first, second and third-place winners from PA District 12 were announced at a meet-and-greet event on April 26 with Congressman Keith Rothfus, who presented Kumta with a certificate of special recognition.

Earlier this year, Kumta's Etchings of Experience won a Gold Key in the regional Scholastic Art Awards competition.

The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide high school visual art competition that recognizes and encourages artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Students submit entries to their congressional representative's office, and panels of artists in each district select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The first-place artwork from each district is displayed in the Cannon Tunnel leading to the U.S. Capitol for a year. Learn more.

Congratulations, Aniket!
