Fox Chapel Farmers Market at SSA Opens June 12

The Fox Chapel Farmers Market at SSAThe Fox Chapel Farmers Market at Shady Side Academy will open for its ninth season on Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

The market is held in the first parking lot on the SSA Senior School campus, in front of the new McIlroy Center for Science and Innovation, at 423 Fox Chapel Road in Fox Chapel.

The market will be open Wednesdays from 3:30-6:30 p.m. from June 12 through Oct. 23, 2019.

The Fox Chapel Farmers Market features locally sourced, seasonal produce, food and specialty items from area farms and vendors, including Shady Side Academy's own SSA Farm. Offerings include fruits and vegetables, perennials and potted plants, gourmet baked goods, raw unprocessed honey, old-fashioned lemonade, small-batch coffee, chocolate-covered fruits and cheesecake, wood-fired pizza, herbal-infused cleaning products, fresh mushrooms and much, much more. It's a great place to enjoy dinner or a snack while playing corn hole and listening to live music on a warm summer afternoon!

In addition to the SSA Farm, market vendors for 2019 include: 412 Beads, A & L Sharpening Services LLC, Atelier Glass Studio, Barlow Bakes LLC, The Bluegrass Kitchen, Cindy's Munchies, Curly Tailed Coffee, Cutting Root Farm & Apothecary, Earth Wheel & Fire Mobile Pizza, Hannah's Honey, Lamb's Ear Farm, Old Tin Roof Farm, Olive & Marlowe, Park Street Treats, Pisarcik Flower Farm, Pop Up in Pittsburgh, Santarcangelo Italian Specialties, Serakowski Farms, Soul Home Sanctuary, Sturges Orchards, Tauberg Chiropractic Rehabilitation LLC, Ultra Matcha and Version Textile.

A unique aspect of the Fox Chapel Farmers Market is that it is managed in part by Shady Side Academy students. This year's student market managers are rising senior Molly Skvorak and rising sophomore Anker Zhao. Learn more about the Fox Chapel Farmers Market.

The SSA Farm, which has garden plots on all four Shady Side Academy campuses, sells its fresh-picked harvest at the Fox Chapel Farmers Market. Each summer the farm hires student interns to tend the farm, harvest the produce and sell it at the market stand. This year's farm interns are rising seniors Ashwin Shankar and Parker Maivald, along with Chatham University graduate student Bethany Welch-Luttrell.
