Innovation Speakers Series Event Highlights Platforms and Blockchain, Feb. 21

ISS Platforms and Blockchain graphicShady Side Academy will host the second event in its Innovation Speakers Series, How Platforms and Blockchain Are Reshaping Business for Today and Tomorrow, on Thursday, Feb. 21, from 6-7:30 p.m. The event will be held in the new McIlroy Center for Science and Innovation on the SSA Senior School campus, 423 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238.

The event is open to the community and admission is free; however, space is limited and advance RSVP is required. Please RSVP online by Monday, Feb. 18.

The event will feature two presenters: SSA parent Tim Derdenger, associate professor of marketing and strategy at Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business, will discuss the surge of new platforms in finance, healthcare, gaming and agriculture and their impact on the functional areas of business; and Param Singh, the Carnegie Bosch associate professor of business technologies and director of the PNC Center for Financial Services Innovation at CMU, will discuss the technology of blockchain and its potential to reshape industries by eliminating intermediaries.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with registration, refreshments and self-guided tours of the McIlroy Center, followed by the presentation and a Q&A from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the McIlroy Center's J. Keefe Ellis Commons.

The Innovation Speakers Series at Shady Side Academy features distinguished professionals sharing their perspectives on the innovations that are changing industries in Pittsburgh and around the world. The events are free and open to the community, and many of the speakers are SSA parents or alumni. The series debuted on Oct. 9, 2018, with the panel discussion The Impact of Artificial Intelligence in Pittsburgh and Beyond.
