During the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 3, Shady Side Academy welcomed a record 1,142 students in grades PK-12 to our four campuses for the opening of the 2021-2022 school year.
Country Day School welcomed new students for orientation on Monday, Aug. 30 and all PK-5 students for the first day of school on Tuesday, Aug. 31. Despite the rain, students and teachers had a great day. The day began with the first-ever outdoor assembly, and it was wonderful to celebrate the start of the school year together.

The Junior School also welcomed new students for orientation on Monday, and all PK-5 students for the first day of school on Tuesday. The first day began with an all-school welcome gathering at the flagpole and a visit from Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning Melanie Smith's bulldog. Students played with friends, practiced new procedures and enjoyed a day full of learning.

The Middle School welcomed sixth graders and grade 7-8 students on Monday for a full-day orientation, and seventh graders on Tuesday for their first day. After severe rain and flooding prompted a weather-related school closure on Wednesday, all students in grades 6-8 had their first full day of classes and sports on Thursday.

The Senior School held ninth grade and new student orientation on Monday, followed by an all-school orientation day on Tuesday, which included a morning of outdoor team-building activities with Playfair on the stadium turf. After the weather-related school closure on Wednesday, all grade 9-12 students attended Convocation and the first day of classes on Thursday. Student Council President and senior Noah Delisma gave the Convocation address.
