Celebrating the First Week of School

During the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 3, Shady Side Academy welcomed a record 1,142 students in grades PK-12 to our four campuses for the opening of the 2021-2022 school year.

Country Day School welcomed new students for orientation on Monday, Aug. 30 and all PK-5 students for the first day of school on Tuesday, Aug. 31. Despite the rain, students and teachers had a great day. The day began with the first-ever outdoor assembly, and it was wonderful to celebrate the start of the school year together.

The first day began with an all-school welcome gathering at the flagpole and a visit from Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning Melanie Smith's bulldog. Students played with friends, practiced new procedures and enjoyed a day full of learning.
