Boys Tennis Players Win Silver and Bronze at WPIAL Singles Championship

Shady Side Academy seniors Colin Gramley and Adeel Piracha placed second and third, respectively, at the WPIAL Class 3A Boys Tennis Singles Championship, held April 13-14 at North Allegheny Senior High School.

Gramley defeated Brian Lee of Penn Trafford, 10-1, in the first round, Nate English of Albert Gallatin, 10-5, in the quarterfinals, and Phillip Gorun of Mt. Lebanon, 6-3, 6-1, in the semifinal round on Tuesday, April 13, to advance to the championship match on Wednesday. He fell to South Fayette's Jacob Patterson, 7-5, 6-3, in the final round, earning a silver medal and qualifying for the PIAA Class 3A Boys Singles Tennis Championship in May at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Piracha defeated David Lusk of Peters Township, 10-3, in the first round and Anup Nadesan of Franklin Regional, 10-6, in the quarterfinal round, but fell to eventual champion Jacob Patterson of South Fayette, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals on Tuesday. On Wednesday he defeated Phillip Gorun of Mt. Lebanon, 6-2, 6-1, in the consolation match to earn the bronze medal.
