The Shady Side Academy boys lacrosse team defeated Mount Lebanon, 12-11, in an overtime thriller to win the 2022 WPIAL 3A Boys Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday night, May 25, at Robert Morris University's Joe Walton Stadium.

The No. 3-seeded Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-3 first-quarter lead and were up 7-5 at the half. The top-seeded Blue Devils scored three straight goals in the third quarter and take an 8-7 lead, and it was back and forth the rest of the way. SSA was down 11-10 with 1:56 to go, but sophomore Mac Mohn tied it up 30 seconds later to force overtime. The Bulldogs won the OT face-off, and junior J.P. Henry scored on a behind-the-back shot at 2:59 of overtime to lift SSA to the win.

Mohn and junior Ethan Salvia led SSA with four goals apiece in the game, and Salvia had an assist as well. Freshman James Rost added two goals and an assist, and freshman Seamus Riordan added one goal and two assists.

It marked the Bulldogs' second WPIAL title overall and its first since 2014.

Both teams advance to the PIAA state playoffs, which begin on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will face the first-place team from District 10 in the first round - opponent, game time and location are TBD.
