Boys Golf Team Advances to WPIAL Championship

Boys' Golf TeamThe Shady Side Academy boys varsity golf team placed second at the WPIAL Class AAA Team Semifinals on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Indian Run Golf Club in Avella, Pa., qualifying to advance to the WPIAL Team Championship.

Nine teams competed at Indian Run, one of two WPIAL semifinal sites, with the top three teams advancing. SSA earned second place with an overall team score of 390, marking the fourth straight year the team will compete in the WPIAL finals. SSA was led by junior Adam Lauer, who shot a 67. Junior Charles Troutman shot 78, junior Garrett Fuhrer shot 79, sophomore Wes Warden shot 82, senior Patrick Walsh shot 84, and senior Brice Delaney shot 87.

Other teams advancing out of the Indian Run semifinal were Upper St. Clair (388) and Central Catholic (391). Three teams also advanced out of the other semifinal, held at the Links at Spring Church: Fox Chapel (385), Seneca Valley (392) and Peters Township (399). These five teams will join SSA in the WPIAL Class AAA Boys Golf Team Championship at Cedarbrook Golf Course on Thursday, Oct. 10.
