John Mabold, a French teacher at Shady Side Academy Senior School, recently published the book Jostled Soul, a collection of poems deeply rooted in the meaning of cycles, nature, remembrance and transcendence. Mabold joined the SSA Senior School World Languages faculty as a French teacher in 2019, and previously taught in the Slippery Rock Area School District. He is a poet and travel writing instructor who offers introspective writing workshops in Paris during the summer. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in English writing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where his doctoral research on 19th century American regionalist and local color writings explores the inward journey of self-discovery synonymous with later works of travel writing. He holds a B.A. in French, a B.S. in French Secondary Education and an M.A. in English from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.
