Senior School Students and Faculty Volunteer for Ukrainian Relief Efforts

Several Shady Side Academy Senior School students and faculty members volunteered their time in support of the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) Ukraine Crisis Response by assisting at a fundraising dinner and hosting a bake sale on campus. The volunteer efforts were coordinated by SSA sophomore Ava Terezis.

On Sunday, Sept. 25, eight students and one teacher volunteered at the IOCC's Ukrainian Relief Dinner at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Oakland, assisting with setup, food service and cleanup. In addition to Terezis, the SSA volunteers included sophomores Anna Apetrei-Pandrea, Ava Jankowksi, Gabby Jarvis, Dane Thomas and Tina Xia, juniors Sara Laman and Ortiz Ortiz, and math and physics teacher Kira Savage. Proceeds from the dinner went to the IOCC Ukraine Crisis Relief, which provides humanitarian aid to those affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The week prior to the dinner, a two-day bake sale was held on campus to raise additional funds for the IOCC's Ukraine relief efforts. In addition to the eight students above, sophomores Sophia Gombos, Sonia Kshirsagar, Audrey Jiang, Nina Onest, Jordan Roupe and Brynn Stanton, senior Elaine Gombos, and librarian and Service Learning Club advisor Lindsey Myers contributed baked goods and/or worked the bake sale table. The sale raised $438.50, which was matched by a donor, yielding $877 in donations to IOCC Ukraine Crisis Relief.

Thank you to the students and teachers who volunteered their time for this worthy cause!
