Shady Side Academy senior Nichole Poltinnikov competed in the 2022 WPIAL Class 3A Girls Tennis Championship on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 21-22, placing fourth overall.
On Wednesday at North Allegheny High School, Poltinnikov defeated Evie Ellenberger of Upper St. Clair, 10-6, in the first round and Emily Wincko of North Allegheny, 10-1, in the quarterfinal round, before falling to to eventual WPIAL champion Amelia Williams of Penn Trafford, 6-1, 6-0, in the semifinals. On Thursday, Poltinnikov fell to Sara Hernandez of North Allegheny 6-3, 6-4, in the consolation match, held at Bethel Park High School.
Poltinnikov earned a spot in the WPIAL Singles Championship after winning the Section 3-3A singles title on Thursday, Sept. 15.
