For their important work with Off Their Plate, a nonprofit supporting women and BIPOC chefs to feed people experiencing food insecurity across the country, sisters and Shady Side Academy alumnae Maddie Taylor '14 and Claire Taylor '21 are the recipients of the 2022 Paul R. Pigman '52 Prize. The award was established by the family and friends of alumnus Paul R. Pigman '52 in 1996 and is given in his memory each year to young alums whose activities in their daily life or profession exemplify strong character and good citizenship.

In 2020, Maddie and Claire launched Feeding the Frontline PGH during the COVID-19 pandemic, a grassroots effort to support Pittsburgh restaurants while nourishing health care workers fighting COVID-19. Feeding the Frontline PGH used funds collected via GoFundMe and Venmo to place large food orders at local restaurants, which the team would deliver to Pittsburgh hospitals, clinics, COVID-19 test centers and doctor's offices to support health care workers taking tremendous risks to save lives and care for those affected by COVID-19.
October is Tackling Hunger Month, and Maddie and Claire are involved in "Plates with Purpose," a monthlong campaign by Off Their Plate to raise awareness about food insecurity and the ways restaurants and community partners are alleviating hunger in their communities.
