Lower School Families Participate in Shady Side Gives Back Event

On Saturday, Nov. 5, more than 30 Shady Side Academy Country Day School and Junior School families, totaling more than 75 people, met along Nine Mile Trail in Frick Park for Shady Side Gives Back, a community service event to clean up the park and give back to the community.

Following an introduction from Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy park rangers, the first hour was spent picking up trash from along the trail and out of the stream, including an old tire and a sofa cushion. Several determined kids waded into the stream to grab pieces of trash. Then, following further instructions from the park rangers, families participated in planting willow stakes along the bank of the stream, which help prevent soil erosion. The kids enjoyed hot chocolate and snacks following the clean-up efforts.

Thank you to the Country Day School and Junior School Parents' Associations for organizing this important family event!
