Girls Basketball Advances to PIAA Second Round, Boys Fall in First Round

The Shady Side Academy girls' and boys' basketball teams competed in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A Championships the weekend of March 10-11.

On Friday, March 10, the SSA girls defeated District 9 champion Karns City, 54-19, in the PIAA first round at Karns City High School. SSA freshman Maggie Spell led the Bulldogs with 17 points, while freshman Karis Thomas added 14 and freshman Cassie Sauer scored 10. The Bulldogs (24-3) move on to face District 10 champion Mercyhurst Prep (20-5) in the PIAA second round on Tuesday, March 14, at 6 p.m. at Slippery Rock University The PIAA 3A bracket can be downloaded here. On Saturday, March 11, the SSA boys fell to District 10 champion Franklin, 75-43, in the PIAA first round at Franklin High School. The Bulldogs close out the 2022-2023 season with a 17-10 overall record. Congratulations to Coach David Vadnais and the team on a great season!
