Four Shady Side Academy Senior School students have been named 2023 Carson Scholars by the Carson Scholars Fund. Sophomore Sophia Gombos was named a New Carson Scholar, and juniors Benjamin Bischoff, Veronica Koval and Patrick Sippel were named Recognized Carson Scholars.

Gombos will receive a $1,000 college scholarship, plus a medal and certificate. Bischoff, Koval and Sippel, who previously won Carson Scholarships, will receive pins and certificates in recognition of their continued academic and humanitarian achievements. SSA will receive nameplates for each student to add to the school's Carson Scholars Trophy.

The Carson Scholars Fund awards $1,000 college scholarships to students in grades 4-11 who excel academically and are dedicated to serving their communities. Previous winners of Carson Scholarships are eligible to reapply for Carson Scholar Recognition annually. Students must be nominated by an educator at their school, and only one student per school may apply. Carson Scholars must have a minimum GPA of 3.75 and display humanitarian qualities through community service.

The 2023 Carson Scholars in the Pittsburgh area will be recognized at an awards banquet on Sunday, April 23, at noon at Acrisure Stadium.

Congratulations to all four students!
