Senior School Campus
The Senior School sits on 130 beautiful acres in the suburban neighborhood of Fox Chapel. Our campus is much like that of a small college, with multiple buildings and plenty of outdoor spaces to learn and play. This environment helps students learn to navigate and manage their growing independence in a supportive and supervised community, better preparing them for the transition to college.
Academic & Arts Facilities
Our picturesque campus features six academic buildings, including Gold LEED-certified Rowe Hall, Memorial Hall, Hunt Hall, the Benedum Visual Arts Center, the Hillman Center for Performing Arts and McCune Library. Construction of a new Center for Science and Innovation is planned to begin in 2017, with completion by the 2018-2019 school year.
Outdoor Learning Spaces
Senior School students have plenty of outdoor spaces to study and learn. On a nice day you'll see teachers holding class outside on the circular benches of Rowe Hall Courtyard or on the new J. Michael Grzymkowski Terrace. You'll also find students studying together or working on group projects at the tables in Fisher Garden, in the Adirondack chairs on the Senior Quad, on the porches of Morewood and Croft House dormitories, or at the tables on Mary Hillman Jennings Plaza.
The Academy-wide SSA Farm initiative was born in 2012 as a 40' x 100' vegetable garden on the far fields of the Senior School campus. This garden yields nearly 500 pounds of fresh produce each year, which is used by the dining halls and sold at the on-campus Fox Chapel Farmers Market. The farm is integrated into the curriculum to provide hands-on experiential learning in classes such as science, economics and even art. Students can work on the farm for PE credit in the fall and spring, and serve as interns at the Farm or Farmers Market in the summer. Learn more about the SSA Farm.
Our campus boasts some of the top athletic facilities in Western Pennsylvania. Students have daily access to on-campus facilities including a multi-purpose turf stadium with lights and an eight-lane track, five grass athletic fields, a full-size ice hockey rink, two gymnasiums, an indoor pool, squash and tennis courts. Numerous faculty and staff members and their families live on the Senior School campus year-round, both in dorms and houses, to support our boarding program and provide a constant adult presence for our five- and seven-day boarders. Both the Academy president and the Senior School head reside on campus and often host the boarding community in their homes.
