Country Day School
Welcome to Shady Side Academy Country Day School in Fox Chapel, which serves a co-ed population of approximately 120 elementary school students from pre-kindergarten (age 3) through grade 5. Our spacious 17-acre campus is located in the Fox Chapel suburb of Pittsburgh.
Since 1948, hundreds of children have journeyed through their childhood at Country Day School, where we provide a nurturing environment, age-appropriate curriculum, and a wide variety of classroom and outdoor activities to inspire happy, active learners.
When you first visit us, you may initially be struck by the charm of our large, red-brick school house filled with spacious, bright classrooms. Although our building is indeed attractive, don’t walk inside right away. Make sure to look around you to get a more complete picture. Country Day School is nestled among 17 acres of beautiful, wooded land and lovely rolling hills. It is truly the ideal educational setting.
Throughout our hallways and classrooms you will notice an intimate environment and relaxed atmosphere. We strongly believe that our small class size allows every child to be cared for by every faculty member and to experience learning as a journey, not a race. Within each classroom, you will see that our children are actively engaged in the learning process.
Attend a classroom or whole-school morning meeting and you will discover that we are a community dedicated to teaching our children how to care for and respect each other. We begin this process with our youngest students, and we continue guiding them as they move through the elementary grades. Our faculty and our parents work as a team to provide a caring, responsive and empathetic environment for our children.
Our location, size and sense of community are all vital aspects to our school; however, it is our children’s extraordinary experiences, their joyful approach to learning and their commitment to friendship that make us unique and proud.
Please stop by and see the school for yourself! I am eager to meet you.
