Health services
The Academy provides student health services primarily for first aid and the treatment of patients with minor or short-term illnesses or injuries.
The Academy employs two school nurses, one at the Junior School and one who is available to both the Middle and Senior School. Also, the city of Pittsburgh (Junior School) and the Fox Chapel Area School District (Middle and Senior Schools) provide the school with a nurse whose primary responsibilities are to facilitate state-required health screenings and to report immunization and communicable disease information. These nurses are available anywhere from once a week to once every several weeks.
Health Office hours vary by school. Please contact your individual school for more information about the Health Office there and its hours of operation.
The school also employs two certified athletic trainers for the care, prevention and treatment of athletic injuries for Middle and Senior School students. The trainers are available before, during and after athletic practices and events, as well as during the school day. They are responsible for overseeing the sports injury rehabilitation process. Should your child sustain an athletic injury, it is imperative that you contact one of the trainers as soon as possible.
When medical emergencies or athletic injuries occur, every effort will be made to contact a parent or guardian. In some instances, students may be transported to the nearest hospital for emergency care. In the event that an ambulance or other EMS services are needed, parents may be responsible for the payment of this service.
