Community Values

Shady Side Academy is a community of learners which devotes itself first and foremost to its students. The Academy strives to teach and to live by democratic and ethical principles and values which acknowledge and celebrate cultural differences. The school safeguards the individual's place in the community and is dedicated to every individual's freedom and responsibility to think, to communicate and to act with critical reflection.
Guiding Principles

Members of the Shady Side Academy community acknowledge and accept five principles that serve as fundamental points of guidance for all adults and students living and working together in our school community. Learn more.

Diversity

In 2007, the Board of Trustees approved the Academy's first-ever statement on diversity in the broadest sense of the word. Learn more.

Global Perspective

Shady Side Academy's mosaic landscape is rich with texture, hues, voices, views and possibilities. As a community of action-minded learners and leaders, opportunities abound for students to partake in service-oriented projects and clubs, both locally and globally. Learn more.

Community of Concern

In 2008 Shady Side Academy established its initial PK-12 Community of Concern; the mission of Community of Concern is to educate parents and establish partnerships to the end that we coordinate our efforts in keeping our students, your children, alcohol, tobacco and other drug-free. Learn more.
