Shady Side Academy alumna Laura Shapira Karet '86 has been promoted to CEO of Giant Eagle, the region's largest supermarket chain, effective Jan. 9, 2012. She will succeed her father, David Shapira, who has been CEO of the O'Hara-based grocer since 1980. Karet's current position is chief strategy officer for Giant Eagle; she previously worked at Proctor & Gamble and Sara Lee.
