The Pittsburgh CLO performed "We The People, The Musical" through their Gallery of Heroes program for Shady Side Academy Junior and Middle School students, as well as students from Fox Chapel Country Day School, at the Hillman Center for Performing Arts on the SSA Senior School campus on Thursday, March 7.
Through a series of sketches and songs, the show explores the Constitution and Civil Rights. Using the Preamble to the Constitution as a framework, the cast takes students on a journey showing not only how the Constitution applies to our past, but also to our present and future. Everyday life is showcased in both funny and touching vignettes, offering a variety of moods as it explores the deeper meanings of the language of the Constitution. Tributes to the military, freedom songs and a celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous speech, “I Have a Dream”, are all part of this patchwork quilt of American life.
The performance was generously underwritten by SSA grandparents Helen Hanna Casey and Stephen Casey, and made possible by the Engel family.
