Welcome to our SSA Art Studio.  My name is Cydra Vaux and I have been teaching here at Shady Side since 2000.    I teach Third, Fourth, and Fifth grade art.  I received my Art education Certification at Seton Hill University.  Before coming to Shady Side Academy I taught art at The Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.  Our art curriculum is dynamic, thorough and introduces students to a wide variety of materials including ceramics and glazing, painting, two dimensional and three dimensional projects.  Rooted in the fundamentals of art the students are introduced to the elements of art including form, shape, color, texture, space, and value.  The principles of art taught in the class include: emphasis, balance, harmony, variety, movement, rhythm proportion and unity.  The artistic traditions of many cultures are explored in addition to a variety of art techniques.  Exploration and fun are emphasized in the classroom along with the wonder and joy of creation.  Welcome!
