Welcome to MrS. Suhody's Third Grade
Third Grade Overview:
In Third Grade we work, play, and learn together as we take our minds on historical travels to the Colonial Times, the Westward Movement and throughout the United States. We read together, as we enjoy three class novels, (Ramona Quimby, Age 8, A Lion to Guard Us, & Grasshopper Summer). Also, we will problem solve together as we focus on many Math themes throughout the year, including, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, graphing, money, measurement, etc. Throughout the entire year, one of our main goals will be growing together as much more responsible and organized students. Nothing but Teamwork in Third Grade!
Mrs. Suhody's Biography:
I originally received Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Consumer Science and Retailing from Purdue University and worked as a retail buyer for sixteen years prior to attending Duquesne University where I received my M.S.Ed. in 1998. I joined the Shady Side Academy faculty in the summer of 2000. Initially, I taught kindergarten at Shady Side Academy for six years and during that time, pursued my Pennsylvania Reading Specialist certification through Duquesne University. This certification was awarded in the spring of 2005. I taught fifth grade language arts at Shady Side Academy from 2005 -- 2012 at which time I began teaching third grade in a self-contained classroom.
My family consists of my husband, two daughters, three cats, and beloved beagle. Outside school, I have been active for many years in the international adoption community, speaking publicly and writing articles which have been published in magazines and journals with local, national, and international circulation. I also enjoy playing and watching tennis, antiquing, scrapbooking, and dollhouses and miniatures.
