125th Anniversary
In 2008-2009, the Academy celebrated the 125th anniversary of its founding in 1883. From its humble beginnings in a one-room schoolhouse in the Shadyside section of Pittsburgh, Shady Side Academy has grown into a nationally respected independent school, enrolling 950 students in grades PK-12 and spanning three beautiful campuses. The yearlong celebration included events and festivities at all three campuses, including:

April 23-24, 2009: Middle School 50th Anniversary Celebration
May 2, 2009: Academy 125th Anniversary Celebration, highlighted by a visit from Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian David McCullough '51.

On Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, approximately 1,200 Shady Side Academy students,
faculty and staff gathered to form the numbers "1-2-5" on McKelvy Field
to officially kick off the Academy's 125th anniversary celebration.
