For over 125 years, Shady Side Academy has been a leader in independent school education in western Pennsylvania.  We have grown from a one room school house to a PK - 12, multi-campus facility offering an exceptional academic program which balances the best of traditional practices and curricular innovation.

At each of our three campuses, girls and boys have the opportunity to explore new interests in a safe, supportive atmosphere, to engage with educators and staff who are leaders in their fields and are committed to their individual needs, and to excel in the classroom, in the arts, and in athletics.  We firmly believe in a balanced approach to education where all students have opportunity to pursue their passions but are equally encouraged to try new things, to stretch their minds and abilities.  We are preparing students for life and the skills they develop – the ability to problem-solve, to critique, to articulate one’s thoughts, to write, to be involved citizens – will give them confidence to approach this ever-changing world. 

Shady Side will host a number of events for prospective families this fall.  Please join us for an Admissions Open Houses or call to schedule a tour and interview which are offered throughout the year. Applicants are invited to "shadow" a current student for a day to experience first-hand what it is like to attend Shady Side Academy. We want every family to visit with us in a way that is most comfortable for them.
