Welcome to Kindergarten At
Shady Side Academy Junior School
In Kindergarten we are working on developing the whole child. We want all children in our class to develop socially, emotionally and academically. We have created a center-oriented classroom that will help to enhance a child-centered curriculum. Our focus is to develop a path for each child and not the child for the path. We are continuing to work hard to keep everything developmentally appropriate. We embrace the early childhood philosophy of: creating a caring community of learners, teaching to enhance children's learning and development, constructing appropriate curriculum, assessing children's learning and development, and establishing reciprocal relationships with families.
My name is Janice Brozek. I grew up in the Pittsburgh area and attended Carlow College (now Carlow University) dual majoring in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I love our great city! This is my 17th year teaching at Shady Side Academy, twelve of those in kindergarten. Teaching kindergarten has always been my passion! Shady Side Academy provides the most fulfilling environment to learn and teach! My husband and I have been married for 34 years and have three grown daughters. When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Ed, our daughters, our four beautiful grandchildren: three grandsons, and one granddaughter!
My name is Jessica Wolf. I grew up in Pittsburgh and attended LaRoche College where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Spanish Minor. I am currently working on Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Gannon University. I taught Full-Time for 8 years, mostly in Kindergarten, before coming to Shady Side Academy. I am so excited to be here working with your children. When I am not at school I enjoy spending time with my husband Mike, son Xavier and daughter Gracie!
