Senior School

Welcome to the online home of Shady Side Academy's Senior School! The Senior School serves a co-ed population of approximately 485 high school students in grades 9-12. Our beautiful 130-acre college-like campus is located in the Fox Chapel suburb of Pittsburgh.

The pictures and stories you see and read on this website will give you an excellent sense of our school, but nothing compares to experiencing it firsthand. We are truly a community, one founded on our Guiding Principles  of Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Safety and Kindness. Our students, teachers and parents contribute to the community by putting those values into action every day.

Our values manifest themselves in classrooms of rigorous academic courses, on the stage in beautiful, student performances, on the field of competitive play, and in many other areas on the campus. Our program is a comprehensive one that allows students to learn through a variety of experiences, while working closely with peers and faculty members in the classroom, art studio, playing field, community, and even the dining hall. Every experience contributes to the learning and development of our students.

We have students from near and far; some choose to participate in our Five-Day Boarding Program to gain an enriching, college-preparatory experience. This diversity of backgrounds is one of many elements that contributes to the diversity in our community. Our differing experiences bring us together to learn and increase our understanding of each other and our varying cultures. As the students become members of the Shady Side community, their journey from ninth grade to graduation is one of growth and development.
