Shady Side Academy is a PK-12 independent school with an enrollment of approximately 930 students on three campuses in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Academy was rated one of Pittsburgh's Top Workplaces for 2011 by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, based on the results of an employee survey. Current employment opportunities are listed below.

English Teacher, Full-Time

Shady Side Academy’s Middle School English Department is seeking an experienced English teacher for full-time employment beginning in August of 2013. Responsibilities will include teaching four sections of Middle School English (and/or possibly some Middle School Study Skills), coaching for two seasons and supervising an advisory/homeroom group of approximately 10 students.

Senior School

Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach

Shady Side Academy’s Senior School Athletics Department is seeking a Head Coach for the Varsity Boys Basketball team for the winter sports season 2013-2014. Reporting to the Head of School and Director of Athletics, the Boys Head Varsity Basketball Coach supervises, coordinates and promotes all phases of the boys varsity basketball program. S/he is responsible for running a comprehensive, high quality high school basketball program in accordance with the academic standards, stated mission and goals of the Academy and the guidelines of all rules and policies established by the Academy, the WPIAL and the PIAA.

Assistant Athletic Trainer (Middle and Senior Schools), Full-Time

Shady Side Academy’s Athletic Department is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer for Middle and Senior Schools. Responsibilities for this 11-month position will include, but are not limited to, coordinating the day-to-day operations of the athletic training rooms at the Middle and Senior School campuses; coordination of athletic physical exams; evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; maintaining medical files and records.

Mathematics Teacher, Full-Time

Shady Side Academy’s Senior School Mathematics Department is seeking applicants for a full-time position includes teaching four sections of mathematics at all levels, advising five to seven students and coaching two seasons. Members of the Mathematics department actively collaborate in innovative curriculum design, pedagogy and assessment. Two years ago, the Mathematics department adopted Math I and Math II, from the Phillips Exeter Academy Math Department, for the ninth and tenth grade curriculum.

Physics Teacher, Full-Time

Shady Side Academy’s Senior School Science Department is seeking applicants for a Physics teaching position for the academic year 2013-14. Responsibilities will include teaching three courses or Physics, coaching two seasons or the equivalent and advising approximately seven students. There may be the possibility of residing in a dormitory and serving as residential faculty in the five-day boarding program. Other duties, such as but not limited to proctoring study halls, chaperoning dances or serving on committees, may be assigned as needed by the Academy.

Director of Information Technology, Full-Time

The recently re-defined Director of Information Technology’s role is to provide strategic vision and leadership to ensure streamlined functionality of the IT Department in alignment with the Academy’s educational and administrative objectives. A key responsibility of this position will be the development, implementation and direction of a technology plan that addresses expanded use of technology within the classroom as well as the most effective and efficient infrastructure to meet the operational needs of the Academy.

Shady Side Academy seeks an experienced fundraiser (3 to 5 years in a school setting) who becomes energized by relational fundraising and soliciting gifts, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, prospect research, troubleshooting, problem solving, and managing logical, efficient, and effective systems to assist in all phases of Annual Giving and Blue & Gold Fund. Shady Side Academy is seeking a coordinator for its PK-12 service learning programs for the 2013-2014 school year. Service learning is a key component of SSA’s culture, regardless of division. This person will assume direct responsibility for the planning, execution and supervision of all service learning activities for the school.

Responsibilities will include the coordination of all health care functions and oversee execution of health care policies and procedures, beginning June 10 and ending Aug. 2. Summer Programs Physics Teacher
Shady Side Academy’s Summer Programs Department is seeking a physics teacher for the 2013 summer session. Responsibilities will include teaching one section of physics, beginning June 17 and ending July 12, to students entering ninth and tenth grades, and preparing midterm and final reports.
