Transportation

We recognize that traveling to Shady Side Academy is a commitment for many families who live outside of our school districts. With three separate campuses, families often wonder how to coordinate transportation for their children. Shady Side students may use school district bus services, if available, or contracted bus services through SSA.

NEW Bus Routes! We've recently added two new routes to our contracted bus services for families in the northern suburbs: a Junior School bus serving the Route 8 Corridor (Pine-Richland/Hampton), and a Middle and Senior School bus serving the Wexford/Cranberry area.

School District Bus Services

Students who live in school districts within 10 miles of each campus are eligible under Pennsylvania law for transportation at no cost. The school district follows the same guidelines for independent schools as it does for its own students. The school districts determine the bus stop locations and the bus schedule.

For the Junior School (grades K–5), the following districts offer bus transportation:

• Gateway
• McKeesport
• North Hills
• Penn Hills
• Pittsburgh
• Plum
• Shaler
• West Jefferson Hills
• Woodland Hills

For the Middle School (grades 6–8) and Senior School (grades 9–12), the following districts offer bus transportation:

• Hampton
• North Allegheny
• North Hills
• Penn Hills
• Pine-Richland
• Pittsburgh
• Plum
• Riverview
• Shaler
• Woodland Hills

Contracted Bus Services

Shady Side Academy contracts bus service from the following areas with Roenigk Transportation:

• Butler: Middle and Senior Schools, morning bus service
• Murrysville/Monroeville: all three campuses, morning and after-school bus service
• North/Rte 8 Corridor: Junior School, morning and after-school bus service with stops in Hampton and Pine-Richland (NEW!)
• North/Cranberry-Wexford: Middle and Senior Schools, morning and after-school bus service with stops in Hampton, North Allegheny, Pine-Richland (including Wexford) and Cranberry (NEW!)
  
• South Hills: Middle and Senior Schools, morning and after-school bus service

The cost of Roenigk's bus service is shared by the riders and varies according to the number of students using it. If you have any questions about our contracted bus services, please contact the Admissions Office.
