One Day in the Shady Side Academy Pre-K (activities will vary, times are approximate) 8:35 AM - Arrival and Play Time Children enter, check in and engage in self-selected play.

9:15 AM - Morning Meeting
Children gather to greet one another, learn the day's schedule, share news,
hold class discussions, and engage in songs and literacy activities.

9:45 AM - Centers
Children work in an array of Center activities, moving at their own pace and according to their own interests. Center activities are organized around academic concepts and themes.

10:30 AM - Snack
Healthy daily snacks will be prepared in the pre-k, often with help from the students.

10:45 AM - Outdoor Play
Fresh air and exercise will be a part of each day. The pre-k will have a paved area for riding toys, playground equipment, a children's garden, sandbox, and a covered porch for rainy days. We will also visit the kindergarten playground sometimes.

11:15 AM - Lesson Time
This period may be used for a Jolly Phonics lesson, a math lesson or another academic skill development activity.

11:30 AM - Special Class
This time could be used for Music, Creative Movement, Drama, P.E. in the gym, Art, Spanish, Library or Science.

  12:00 PM - Afternoon Meeting and Dismissal
(For half day students)
The day ends with a song, a discussion of the day's events and a good-bye.

12:00 PM - Outdoor Play

  12:30 PM - Lunch

1:00 PM - Rest/Nap and Quiet Play

2:00 PM - Special Class
This time could be used for Music, Creative Movement, Drama, P.E. in the gym, Art, Spanish, Library or Science.

2:30 PM - Play Time

3:00 PM - Afternoon Meeting and Dismissal
The day ends with a song, a discussion of the day's events and a good-bye.
