We recognize that traveling to Shady Side Academy is a commitment for many families who live outside of our school districts. With three separate campuses, families often wonder how to coordinate transportation for their children. The following information looks to answer the questions you may have.

School District Transportation

Students who live in school districts within 10 miles of each campus are eligible under Pennsylvania law for transportation at no cost. The school district follows the same guidelines for independent schools as it does for its own students. The school districts also determine the locations of bus stops and the bussing schedule.

For the Junior School (grades K – 5) the following districts offer transportation:

For the Middle School (grades 6 – 8) and Senior School (grades 9 – 12) the following districts offer transportation:

Pittsburgh
Plum
Riverview
Shaler
Woodland Hills

Other Transportation Services

In addition to the above transportation, Shady Side Academy arranges bus service from certain areas with Roenigk Transportation.

1. All three campuses have morning and after-school bus service for the Murrysville/Monroeville area.
2. The Middle and Senior Schools have morning and after-school bus service for the South Hills.
3. We offer morning transportation from the Butler area to the Middle and Senior Schools.
4. There is also an activities bus which leaves from the Senior School at
   6:00 PM for stops in Hampton, North Allegheny, Pine-Richland, including Wexford with a final stop in Cranberry.

The cost of Roenigk's bus service is shared by the riders and varies according to the number of students using it. If you have any questions about our contracted bus services, please call Maria Defeo at 412-968-3068 or the admissions office.
