Overview |
The study of health and wellness deals with three related areas: mental, social, and physical well-being. The focus of this one-term course is mostly on physical health. Three main topics of discussion are drug abuse, AIDS/STD'S, endocrine system along with male/female reproduction. By presenting the facts on each topic and clearing up misconceptions the goal is that students will develop the necessary skills to weigh options and make responsible decisions that will promote healthy lifestyles. |
Syllabus |
We provide the student with reliable facts, clear up misunderstanding, and teach you where to research trusted sites and sources for information dealing with class discussions and any health issues. Grading This is a pass/fail class. Students receive a P/F grade and an effort grade (1-5). Your grades are mainly determined by your participation during class discussion and participation during all class activities ( quizzes, exams, handouts, and attendance ). Also must complete the final research project. If the class is discussing a particular area that is difficult for you to participate in, you must let the teacher no this so that we can make alternative plans. If any assignments are missing by the end of the term, a grade of “incomplete” will be given along with a final completion date. If assignments are missing by completion date, a grade of “F” will be given and the course will be repeated. |
Final |
Final Project Students select a drug topic to research. All research work is done in the library during class time with the assistance of the librarian, Ms Williams. Each student will work on his or her own different drug topic. Also you will present a poster or a pamphlet in your presentation to the class. Each student will be graded by your peers (1-10) and the teacher, (1-10) how to grade will be discussed at a later date. |
