Overview Grade 6: Western Civilization
A thematic investigation and chronological survey of Western Civilization from the ancient Middle East to World War II Investigate change , continuity, and resistance to change in cultures, governments, economic systems and social processes in different eras Explore the relationship between geography and human behavior Develop critical reading skills such as main ideas, frame of reference, fact and opinion, and bias Foster writing skills and research skills through essay writing and collaborative projects with the students and across disciplines Cultivate an information base in history and social sciences to recognize relevant connections between the past and present

What role did the Emperor Constantine play in the spread of Christianity? 12/15/08 -12/19/08 :The Class will go to the library to research for the Rome Project. 13/6/08 Classes resume. No homework id due discuss the fall of Rome 13. 1/7/09._____ Read pp. 241-244 and answer the questions 1-3 on p. 244. Take notes in class on the factors influencing the fall of Rome in the west. 14._____1/8/09 - Write research paper in class. 15._____1/9/09 - Continue work on research paper in class. 16.______ 1/12/09 - Continue work on research paper in class 17. _____ 1/13/08 - Review for the unit test 18. _____ 1/14/08 - Unit test / 1/16/09- 1/23/09 - At the end of this unit you must submit a completed research paper to the teacher. The paper must have a title page, main body and bibliography, as well as note cards. The last day to complete the paper is 1/23/09.

Announcements: Social Studies Grade Six Final Exam Announcement
The sixth grade social studies classes will have a final exam this year and the following will be a summary of the characteristics of the exam.
The content of the exam will cover the last five units from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution.
This is approximately half of the year.
An oral review will be given two days before the exam
The students received a final exam review sheet on the first week of May, 2007.
The exam will be objective consisting of multiple choice, true and false, and matching questions, and the exam will be worth ten percent of the year average |
