K-Grade 3 - Music: Ms. Clarke

Overview

The fine arts belong to everyone!  The fine art of music, therefore, is one way for children to take rightful ownership of the arts and to fully participate through a variety of musical experiences.

Music plays a fundamental role in the development of the whole child and it involves memory, discovery, observation, concentration, creativity and imagination, physical coordination, self-discipline, and confidence.

At the Junior School even our youngest students are encouraged to see themselves as "music makers."  Music is not a "spectator sport!"

Students learn about music first with their ears before learning to read music with their eyes.  Through speech patterns, pitch exploration, call and response activities, singing, movement, keeping the beat in place or while moving about, Junior School students have the opportunity to grow and develop in their love of making music.
