Overview

The art program for the young students involve working with a variety of materials and developing skills.  The projects are geared for young artists to learn and appreciate art.  The importance of art is supported by their work on display throughout the school.  During the year there are opportunities for visiting artists to visit the Junior School which enhances the program.  We also arrange to have visiting art on display throughout the school year.

Announcements

Students do wear aprons during art class however, some art materials may get on their clothing.  It is best not to wear a favorite white shirt on art day.  Sweatshirts are excellent.  All materials used in the art room are non-toxic. If tempera paint is found on clothing, brush off as much as possible, soak in soap and water, then wash.  Purple and red paint can be challenging to remove.

You might like to consider taking additional enrichment art class in the city during the fall or winter.   There are a number of institutions that offer art classes and workshops.  Visit Carnegie Museum, Society for Contemporary Crafts, Frick Museum, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts for ideas. There are many opportunites to enjoy the arts on weekends with the family.

It is always rewarding to see your children's work on display.  Select a prominent spot in your home to exhibit their work.  You might also like to start a folder of favorite work to keep thoughout their education. I suggest an acid-free folder that will help preserve the work during time.  It is a great way to see how your child has grown over the years. A great gift for graduation from college or a wedding present is a framed work of art from your child's early art experience.  It is hard to believe how quickly time passes. It is a gift that will never be duplicated and will bring back fond memories.
