                                      Third Grade: Mrs. Gardiner

OVERVIEW

Welcome students and parents to Third Grade!   The start of the new school year is upon us.  I am very excited about the upcoming year.  I am planning many fun and exciting activities.  We will be exploring new topics and learning many new things. Third grade is such an exciting learning adventure.

On this web site you will have access to a lot of important information such as spelling lists, ongoing homework assignments, curriculum related pages and links.   I update this site often, so make sure that you check back from time to time.

Our units of study will be the Colonial Times, the United States, and the Westward Movement.  The class novels are: Ramona Quimby, Age 8, A Lion to Guard Us, and Grasshopper Summer.

Thank you for checking out our third grade web site!

Homework Hints

  • Prior to starting, ask your child if he/she understands the task.
  • If your child is unclear, work through a small part together.  Sometimes it helps to ask them to try to teach the concept to you.
  • Write a note to the teacher if your child has great difficulty with the homework.
  • Provide a special work space where homework can be completed.  This shows that homework is a very important part of your child's education.
  • Praise your child for doing a good job on his/her homework.  Check to be sure it is neat.  Give encouragement, as well as comment about possible improvement if needed.

READING HOMEWORK

  •   Children must read each night for at least twenty minutes.
  •   Upon completion of reading, each child must fill out the weekly reading log for that night.
  •   The total number of pages read for that night should be entered under pages
  •   When a child finishes a book they should indicate that by writing "end" next to the entry for that night.
  •   A parent/guardian needs to sign/initial the reading log each night to let the teacher know that the reading homework was completed.
  •   Each time a child finishes a book he/she must fill out a short book report form, and turn it in to the teacher.  The child then gets a sticker placed on their book hanging on the reading board in the classroom.
