TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION: In order to convert a Pennsylvania
Instructional I (temporary) teaching certificate to an Instructional II (permanent)
certificate, teachers must complete a PA Department of Education approved
Teacher Induction Program. In 2000, the plan submitted by the Academy was
approved and implemented. Over the course of one academic year, an inductee
participates in a mentoring program with three teaching colleagues who assess
and assist in the inductee's progress as an educator. The program consists
of observations, conversations, and evaluations done on a regular basis throughout
the year. The inductee, after successful completion of the program, is eligible
to apply for Instructional II certification, assuming that all other conditions
have been met.
ELIGIBILITY: Any teacher holding Pennsylvania Instructional I certification.
CONDITIONS: The inductee must have his/her mentoring team approved by the school Head.
APPLICATION: Documents can be obtained from the school Head or the Director of Staff Development and, when possible, should be submitted to the school Head in the spring term of the year prior to the implementation of the mentoring program.
