Shady Side Academy swimmers are currently competing at the PIAA Class AA Swimming Championships at Bucknell University from March 16-17. Twelve SSA girls and boys swimmers qualified for states in 15 events.

After the first day of competition, the SSA girls' team stands in sixth place overall and has two medals (1st-8th place) and two place-winners (9th-16th place):

• The 200 freestyle relay team of senior Ashley Azzarello and juniors Heather Grune, Meredith Cummings and Lindsey Grune earned a silver medal, placing second with a time of 1:37.51 – just 0.01 behind the first-place team from Villa Maria Academy.
• In the 200 individual medley, Lindsey Grune earned a medal by placing eighth (2:08.33) while junior Jeanne Lauer placed 16th (2:12.66)
• In the 200 medley relay, the team of Lauer, freshman Maya Groff, Azzarello and Cummings placed ninth with a time of 1:50.37.
