Apiarist Bill Kopar visited the Junior School First Grade classes with his bees. The students had the opportunity to see bees up close, try on the protective gear and taste honey.
This visit ties into the First Grade's year long unit on the life of a bee, which focuses on the life of a bee during each season of the year. This unit is a collaboration between Junior School Science teacher - Mrs. Janosko and the First Grade teachers - Mrs. Hendershot, Ms. Keller, and Ms. Riscili.
In Science, the students had the opportunity to use microscopes to view pollen, make hexagons (mimicking the honeycomb shape) with toothpicks, and see worker bees, queen bees and drones using the newly added smartboard in the science room. This unit on bees will culminate at the end of the year with a visit to Triple B Farms in May.
